Unusual Presentation of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Adult Patient
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a parasitic disease caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, typically presenting as chronic skin ulcers. We describe a rare and unusual case of cutaneous leishmaniasis in an adult patient who presented with atypical clinical manifestations, including nodular lesions mimicking other dermatological conditions, without classical ulceration. This atypical presentation posed significant diagnostic challenges, leading to initial misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. Definitive diagnosis was ultimately achieved through histopathological examination and molecular detection (PCR) of Leishmania parasites. This case highlights the importance of considering cutaneous leishmaniasis in differential diagnoses of atypical skin lesions, especially in endemic regions. Early identification and proper management are crucial for preventing complications and reducing morbidity.
