Severe Gastrointestinal Bleeding Due to Peptic Ulcer Disease in a South African Patient

Abstract
Gastrointestinal bleeding is a major medical emergency with potentially fatal outcomes. This case report describes a 54-year-old male from Cape Town, South Africa, who presented with hematemesis, melena, and hemodynamic instability. Endoscopic evaluation confirmed a large bleeding peptic ulcer, which was successfully managed with endoscopic hemostasis and proton pump inhibitor therapy. This case highlights the importance of early intervention in acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
