HIV-Associated Nephropathy in a South African Patient: A Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN) is a significant cause of kidney dysfunction in HIV-positive individuals. This case report describes a 42-year-old male from Johannesburg, South Africa, who presented with progressive proteinuria, edema, and declining renal function. Renal biopsy confirmed collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, consistent with HIVAN. The patient was initiated on antiretroviral therapy and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, leading to stabilization of renal function. This case underscores the importance of early detection and treatment of HIVAN in affected populations.
